Centurion Systems houses its equipment in a data center which has direct connections to five of the largest Tier
1 backbones providers in existence. These providers are Sprint, Cable & Wireless, AT&T, Digex and UUNet. Direct
connections mean fewer hops between networks, and thus faster server response. With each provider's connections
running over a different carrier's fiber, and with multiple fiber connections into our building, we can give you
a 100% network uptime guarantee. That's right, 100%. We are so confident in our connectivity that we'll offer
refunds for anything less than complete uptime.
The data center also features state-of-the-art power management. With multiple power grid connections, the
likelihood of a local outage affecting us is quite small. In the event of a major power outage, UPS's will take
over and our diesel generators engage within seconds. The generators are redundant, and each one can power the
entire data center for 24 hours on a single tank of diesel fuel. All of the power equipment is tested either
weekly or monthly, with full outage simulations preformed quarterly.
Redundant HVAC systems keep the data center at a constant 65 degrees Fahrenheit, with a relative humidity of 30%
to 45%. Our HVAC systems are backed up by diesel generators.
The data center is also equipped with the VESDA early detection system for fire prevention. VEDSA sensors detect
even the slightest change in air composition and temperature, and send immediate notice to the NOC. Proper measures
can then be taken to fix the problem manually.
As for security, a CCTV system that covers virtually every square foot of the data center is in place, and scheduled
tape rotations keep records of all activity. The building requires authorized key card access, and entrance to the
data center requires a separate key card, and a visual authorization by another member of a 24 hour staffing team.
The data center is a Cisco powered network with cross-strapped redundancy in place from our Border routers and
Distribution routers down to our Access routers. Failure of any single product will not affect the network
availability, and BGP-4 load balancing will direct requests through the best route possible.
All of our hosting servers are protected behind managed firewalls. We can utilize both Nokia equipment running
Check Point and the Cisco PIX line. With redundant firewalls in place, our servers can focus on serving web pages,
instead of turning away bogus requests, and DOS attacks.
